How to respond to your landlord or letting agent's final offer

Updated this week

Receive and Review Your Final Offer

  • After you submit a proposed settlement that the landlord or letting agent rejects, their final offer is sent to you via email and appears on your Reposit dashboard.

  • You have 7 days from receipt of the final offer to act. You can either accept it or escalate to a formal dispute.

Choose Your Next Step

You have two clear options:

A. Accept the Final Offer

  • Action: Review the offer details and then accept by paying the amount specified.

  • Result: The matter is resolved. Payment transfers to the landlord or letting agent, and the case is closed.

B. Formally Dispute the Final Offer

  • Action: Initiate a formal dispute by selecting 'raise formal dispute' on your Reposit dashboard and proceeding to pay the £60 dispute fee. Note: This fee must be paid to register the dispute.

  • Evidence: Be sure to upload all relevant documentation at this stage. This is your only opportunity, as no further evidence can be submitted once the dispute is lodged.

What Happens Next?

  • If you accept the final offer and pay, the case ends and is settled.

  • If you raise a dispute, your case is sent for independent adjudication and reviewed by a third-party adjudicator. The ruling can take up to 6 weeks from the point it is sent off.

Understanding the Dispute Resolution Outcome

  • Here’s how your £60 dispute fee and any resulting charges are handled depending on the adjudicator’s decision:

Decision Outcome

What Happens to the £60 Fee

Landlord’s charges are fully upheld

You lose the £60, and you must pay any remaining balance.

Charges are reduced, but still over £60

The £60 is deducted from what you owe.

Final amount owed is less than £60

You get refunded the difference (i.e., £60 minus final amount).

  • Example: If the adjudicated total is £25, you’d receive a refund of £35

Pay Any Outstanding Balance Promptly

  • Deadline: After receiving the adjudication result, you have 3 days to pay any remaining balance owed.
